I am afraid to watch these films by myself.

Barton Fink
Freaks

According to the cover, the "Freaks" movie uses actual circus freaks, not people in make up.
I had to run out of the theater during Barton Fink, because of the scene with brown or blood stains coming down the walls and the wall paper coming off the walls, because I was trying to write a play for my playwrighting class and I also had brown stains coming down the walls in my first dorm room alone. It looked like old blood, but turned out to be a bad leak with dirt.

I saw "Freak" years ago. I remember that I didn't totally understand the ending despite reading several reviews about the movie before actually seeing it.

Speaking of "Freaks" - are you familiar with a disturbing little horror flick from 1977 called "The Sentinel" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076683/)?

I have not seen "Barton Fink" which is odd because I dig Ethan and Joel.

And I never got around to watching them. John and I ended up watching "The Day After Tomorrow," which he was excited about--it had something to do with Art Bell, and then going out drinkin' and dancin' at the local bar until we felt all cuddly. Not that he would mention his cuddly aspect to another person. He says he doesn't even like the word "cuddle". But that's what I've got on my hands--a weird, cuddly Jay Jonah Jameson.

Begotten? No disemboweling Gods for you, eh? Here's the thing about art like that: I appreciate the sentiment, but how can I truly appreciate the art when I can't even open my eyes to look at it?

I remember when he said he got a kick out of "The Day After Tomorrow" 'cuz some of it took place down by where he works. That movie always gets me teary when Southern California takes a beating and I don't know why - I'm a born and bred Northern CA girl.

John is cuddly? That must be the John that you - and only you - know! ;-)

"Jay Jonah Jameson"???

Yeah, J. Jonah Jameson. Spider-man's constantly shouting editor? John even looks like him--just add a goatee and little round glasses to that face, and that's him. It took him over a year to get "cuddly" with me, so yes, it's very special.

Ha! That's a great picture. Does JW respond to JJJ?

As a sometime Spider-man fan, John truly enjoys the comparison to JJJ. I don't think he repeatedly fires everyone as much as his comicbook counterpart, but he tells me people at his office find him scary, and that there are people he would like to fire (and I think he wants to pound his desk more, too).

You could watch all of these alone, but they're high on the 'disturbing' meter:

Movies I've seen:

Un Chien Andalou (1929) - the scene with the eye and the razor blade. 'Nuff said.

Gummo (1997)

Happiness (1998)

I've heard this one is disturbing, but have yet to see:

Begotten (1991) - based soley on reading other people's reviews, this one sounds freakin' bizarre.

Oh, I dropped myspace. Too many blogs, etc., I didn't feel like I was really "at" any of them. I sent out a bulletin for people to email me to keep in touch, copied my blog into Word, and then cancelled my account. I made some nice friends over there, and kept'em...

I missed that bulletin! (With so many "friends," the bulletins are thick and fast - especially from bands.) It was odd to log on and see that while I still had the same number of friends, that one seemed to be missing. Glad you're still online, though!
